The Skalar BluVision™ discrete analyzer is developed for the automation of colorimetric applications. The analyzer is based on Skalar’s well-proven XYZ robotic platform. The BluVisionTM was designed to handle a variety of sample types and matrices found in today’s diverse laboratories. The central focus for the BluVision™ discrete analyzer’s design was to incorporate Skalar’s expertise in automated wet-chemistry analysis and transfer it to an easy-to-use, low maintenance, user friendly instrument with unsurpassed detection limits.
The BluVision™ system contains 200 sample positions, 4 racks of 50 samples each, one rack of 50 positions for QC’s and standards. The user also has a free choice of assigning QC/standard positions for samples and vice versa, which illustrates the flexible concept of the BluVision™ discrete analyzer. The high sample number and extensive parameter list allows the unit to run easily overnight without operator assistance. Furthermore the BluVision™ has 10 dedicated sample positions for priority samples, allowing these to be added whilst an analysis run is in progress.
The BluVision™ is created for ease-of-use. Loading of samples, QC, standards and reagents is done from the front of the analyzer via sliding drawers to eliminate errors, spills and makes the instrument easily accessible for the operator. Also placing of priority samples can be done from the front while an analysis run is in progress.
A total number of 36 reagent positions are available to cover the reagents required for 14 different analytical parameters to be analyzed on the same batch of samples. This high number of parameters and sample capacity make the BluVision™ the ideal tool for running large series of samples for a few parameters or a wide range of parameters on a few samples. This design illustrates the flexibility of the BluVision™ for application in a variety of laboratory settings and provides true “walk-away” automation.
The key element of the BluVision™ discrete analyzer is Skalar’s own uniquely designed photometric detection system which handles thirty-eight 20-positions disposable cuvette racks. Each cuvette has a 1.5 cm optical path-length which allows accurate low ppb level detection. The use of disposable cuvettes was incorporated to eliminate any carry-over between samples and reduced operator intervention.
The photometric detection system contains 14 LED light sources with different wavelengths allowing 14 different colorimetric applications to be analyzed on each individual sample. The use of a detection system based on LED light sources avoids the use of problematic mechanical filter wheels, thus keeping maintenance to a minimum. Due to the high capacity of 760 sample cuvette positions, large sample volumes can be analyzed by simply adding sample racks. Samples and reagents are pipetted into each measuring cell. Next, depending on the parameter, the samples can selectively be heated to optimize the reaction time. The analyzer has two heating areas of 80 cuvette positions each. After the colorimetric reaction has reached equilibrium, the cuvette is aligned in the photometric detection system and the absorbance is measured at the parameter’s specific wavelength. For turbid and/or colored samples a background correction can be applied.
The DiscreteAccessTM software complies with all current laboratory requirements. An easy-to-use user interface allows the operator to start up the analyzer within seconds. Each analysis run can be set-up batch-wise or random access. For each sample, the user types in the sample ID’s or uploads them from LIMS, then selects the desired analytical parameters to be analyzed and starts the analyzer.
The analyzer automatically pre-dilutes samples or if a sample goes over-range during analysis, the sample is automatically re-run in a different analytical range or re-run after automatic post-dilution.
Extensive QC protocols are available such as CLP and 21 CFR part 11, which includes password protection, data integrity, data safety and audit trails. Final results can be printed using a user-definable report format or exported to LIMS for further data handling.

The San++ Automated Wet Chemistry Analyzer also known as Continuous Flow Analyzer has been designed as a modular system to meet the needs of laboratories which process a few samples or large volumes of samples. Based on the Continuous Flow Analysis (CFA) or also called Segemented Flow Analysis (SFA) technique, up to 16 analytical measurements can be made on a single sample simultaneously. The Speed Extractor E-916 / E-914 is an automated instrument for parallel extraction of primarily organic compounds from a variety of solid or semi-solid matrices.
